Pentti Sammallahti was born in 1950 in Helsinki, Finland. He began taking photographs at 11 and by 1971 he began to exhibit extensively in Finland and throughout the world. Sammallahti describes himself as a nomad who enjoys the nature of the great north, the darkness, the cold, and the sea. Available for sale from photo-eye Gallery, Pentti Sammallahti, Japan, Kitakata City, Fukushima (2005), Silver Gelatin, 7 1/2 × 6 1/4 in Pentti Sammallahti refuses to raise the relatively modest prices of his works and doesn't do editions. As a result, he remains largely unknown among the wider public. Pentti Sammallahti - Here Far Away is the first major retrospective book of leading international photographer Sammallahti. It covers more than forty years work and unfolds in almost as many countries.

Utställning med finska fotografen Pentti Sammallahti på Fotografiska är en fantastisk och inte så lite surrealistisk upplevelse. Sammantaget är utställningen ett panorama över landskap regerat av fåglar och hundar utan att för den skull vända sig mot genren naturfotografi. Det är en omfattande presentationen med inte mindre än 175 bilder som alla förefaller vara lika minutiöst

Fotografiska visar 200 av hans bilder i utställningen Distant Land. Pentti Sammallahti, som är en av Finlands mest erkända konstnärer, är mer än en fotograf: han är poet, resenär, lysande observatör och mästare i det fotografiska hantverket.
